Musim penganugerahan film hampir mencapai puncaknya, setelah Academy Awards Ke-94 mengumumkan daftar nominasinya di Senin, 8 Februari kemarin, dengan dipandu oleh dua aktor kawakan, Tracee Ellis Ross dan Leslie Jordan.

Dari daftar nominasi ini, The Power of the Dog yang merupakan film rilisan Netflix dan garapan sineas asal Selandia Baru, Jane Campion (67), tercatat sebagai peraih nominasi terbanyak. Tepatnya 12 buah nominasi sekaligus.

Nominasi yang didapat film bertema drama psikologis ini termasuk di berbagai kategori utama, seperti film terbaik, sutradara terbaik, aktor terbaik (Benedict Cumberbatch), aktor pendung terbaik (Jesse Plemons dan Kodi Smit-McPhee), dan aktris pendukung terbaik (Kirsten Dunst).

Dari daftar nominasi ini, ada beberapa catatan penting yang ditorehkan film. Selain memberikan pasangan suami-istri Jesse Plemons dan Kirsten Dunst sebuah nominasi secara bersamaan, The Power of the Dog juga menjadi sebuah momen bersejarah bagi Jane Campion.

Berkat nominasi sutradara terbaik yang didapatnya, kini ia menjadi sutradara perempuan pertama yang pernah dua kali mendapatkan nominasi Academy Awards. Nominasi pertamanya didapat berkat The Piano di tahun 1993, yang telah memberikannya piala Palme D’Or prize di Cannes tahun yang sama.

Sejauh ini, hanya ada 7 sutradara perempuan yang pernah mendapatkan nominasi sutradara terbaik di sepanjang sejarah Oscar, yaitu Lina Wertmüller, Sofia Coppola, Kathryn Bigelow, Greta Gerwig, Chloé Zhao, Emerald Fennell dan Jane Campion. Dari 7 nama ini, hanya Bigelow dan Zhao yang sukses membawa pulang pialanya.

The Power of the Dog bukan satu-satunya yang mencatatkan sejarah di Oscar tahun 2022 ini. Film asal Jepang garapan Ryusuke Hamaguchi (43), Drive My Car, juga tak kalah berkilau. Film yang merupakan adaptasi cerpen karangan Haruki Murakami ini sukses mendapatkan 4 buah nominasi sekaligus, termasuk di kategori film terbaik, sehingga Drive My Car menjadi film berbahasa Jepang pertama yang mendapatkan nominasi film terbaik.

Berkat Drive My Car, Hamaguchi pun kini menjadi sutradara jepang ketiga di sepanjang sejarah Oscar yang mendapatkan nominasi sutradara terbaik, menyusul Hiroshi Teshigagara (WOMAN IN THE DUNE) di 56 tahun lalu dan Akira Kurosawa (RAN) di 32 tahun lalu.

Para pemenang Academy Awards ke-94 akan diumumkan di hari Minggu, 27 Maret, di sebuah acara yang berlangsung di Dolby Theatre, Hollywood, Los Angeles. Untuk pertama kalinya semenjak tahun 2017, Oscar akan dipandu oleh seorang host.
