Film road movie karya sutradara Chloé Zhao, Nomadland, semakin menegaskan statusnya sebagai “front runner” untuk kategori Best Film Oscar 2021 setelah baru saja menyabet penghargaan tertinggi di perhelatan London Critics’ Circle Film Awards ke-41 yang berlangsung di Minggu, 7 Februari lalu.

Film meraih gelar Film of the Year, sementara Zhao mendapatkan piala Screenwriter of the Year dan sang aktris utama, Frances McDormand, terpilih sebagai Actress of the Year.

Sementara itu, drama horor psikologis Inggris, Saint Maud, membawa pulang tiga piala pula, yaitu British/Irish Film of the Year, British/Irish Actress of the Year untuk Morfydd Clark, dab Breakthrough British/Irish Filmmaker untuk sutradara/penulis naskah Rose Glass.

Sedangkan Steve McQueen dianugerahi Director of the Year berkat seri filmnya yang terdiri atas lima buah judul, yaitu Small Axe. Shaun Parkes memenangkan Supporting Actor of the Year berkat aktingnya dalam drama pertama dalam seri film tadi, yaitu Mangrove.

Riz Ahmed terpilih sebagai British/Irish Actor of the Year berkat aktingnya dalam Sound of Metal dan juga Mogul Mowgli. Tidak hanya itu, film pendek yang ditulis, produseri dan dibintangi oleh Ahmed, The Long Goodbye, terpilih sebagai British/Irish Short Film of the Year.

Aktor yang telah meninggalkan kita untuk selamanya, Chadwick Boseman, terpilih sebagai Actor of the Year berkat aktingnya dalam Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom. Dan Maria Bakalova menyabet gelar Supporting Actress of the Year untuk perannya dalam Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.
