British Academy of Film and Television Arts baru saja mengumumkan daftar lengkap para nominee untuk BAFTA Awards 2018. Dan dari daftar ini, film drama sci-fi milik Guillermo del Toro, The Shape of Water, sukses memimpin dengan mendapatkan 12 nominasi. 

Selain Best Film, The Shape of Water juga menyabet beberapa kategori utama seperti Best Actress (Sally Hawkins), Best Supporting Actress (Octavia Spencer), serta tentunya Best Director. Prestasi ini menyusul kesuksesan del Toro menyabet piala sutradara terbaik di Golden Globe Awards 2018 berkat film yang sama.

Menyusul di belakang The Shape of Water adalah Blade Runner 2049 dan Dunkirk yang masing-masing mendapatkan 8 nominasi. Film sci-fi karya Denis Villeneuve siap bersaing memperebutkan gelar Best Film, bersama dengan Dunkirk, Call My By Your Name, Darkest Hour dan Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri.

Sayangnya tidak ada film terbaru Steven Spielberg, The Post, dalam daftar nominasi. Sedang karya Ridley Scott, All The Money in The World, mendapatkan nominasi di Best Supporting Actor (Christopher Plummer)

BAFTA Awards ke-71 akan berlangsung pada tanggal 18 Februari di Royal Albert Hall, London, dengan aktris Joanna Lumley bertugas sebagai pemandu acara.
