British Academy Film Awards atau BAFTAs ke-70, baru saja usai berlangsung pada tanggal 12 Februari 2017. Dan dengan 11 nominasi yang didapatnya, La La Land sukses membawa pulang 5 di antaranya, termasuk untuk kategori utama, Best Film.

Apakah lelah mendengar kemenangan berturut-turut La La Land yang seolah-olah tidak selesai? Well, don't be, karena film musikal ini sepertinya tidak mau berhenti sebelum ajang Oscar di beberapa pekan mendatang.

Piala lain yang sukses didapat La La Land adalah Best Director untuk Damien Chazelle, Best Cinematography untuk Linus Sandgren, Best Original Music untuk Justin Hurwitz dan Best Actress yang didapatkan oleh Emma Stone. 

Emma Stone & Dev Patel

Sedang untuk kategori akting, selain Emma Stone, yang juga membawa pulang piala adalah Casey Affleck untuk Best Actor berkat aktingnya dalam Manchester by the Sea. Di departemen Supporting Role, Dev Patel (Lion) dan Viola Davis (Fences) adalah pemenang kategori Best Actor dan Best Actress.  

Aktor muda Tom Holland terpilih untuk mendapatkan EE Rising Star Award, mengalahkan Laia Costa, Lucas Hedges, Ruth Negga dan Anya Taylor-Joy. 

Untuk kategori Outstanding British Film, film Ken Loach, I, Daniel Blake yang telah terpilih. Di kategori animasi, piala jatuh kepada Kubo and the Two Strings. Sedangkan Best Film Not in the English Language adalah film karya László Nemes, Son of Saul dari Hongaria.

Selain La La Land, Arrival dan Nocturnal Animals juga mendominasi perolehan nominasi BAFTAs, dengan masing-masing mendapatkan 9 nominasi. Namun sayangnya hanya Arrival yang sukses membawa pulang piala, yaitu Best Sound, sedang Nocturnal Animals harus puas bertangan hampa.
