Hollywood Foreign Press Association baru saja mengumkan daftar peraih nominasi untuk The 71st Annual Golden Globe Awards. Untuk barisan film layar lebar, berada di garda depan sebagai peraih nominasi terbanyak adalah film terbaru arahan Steve McQueen, 12 Years a Slave, serta film American Hustle arahan David O. Russell yang sama-sama meraih tujuh nominasi. Pun begitu, 12 Years a Slave dan American Hustle hanya akan sama-sama bersaing di dua kategori, Best Director dan Best Screenplay, mengingat Golden Globe Awards memberikan penghargaan yang terpisah bagi film dengan genre Drama (12 Years a Slave) dan Comedy or Musical (American Hustle). Di kategori Best Motion Picture – Drama sendiri, 12 Years a Slave akan bersaing dengan Captain Phillips, Gravity, Philomena dan Rush. Sementara American Hustle akan bersaing dengan Her, Inside Llewyn Davies, Nebraska dan The Wolf of Wall Street di kategori Best Motion Picture – Comedy or Musical.
