Struja, a guitarist in a band called When Dirty Harry Met Dirty Sally, will do whatever it takes to record his band’s first album–as long as it doesn’t compromise his credibility as a rock musician. However, playing pop standards at a wedding seems to be the only way to finance his dream. An abrupt news from his ex-girlfriend make Struja realise that there is far more to life than agonising over whether or not his band should play at a wedding.

Two hundred orchestral musicians are playing Orff’s Carmina Burana in total darkness. A power cut hits the Ngiri Ngiri district of Kinshasa, only a few bars before the last section of the music. Kinshasa’s power stations and main networks are insufficient to supply electricity to all the 8 million inhabitants of what is Africa’s third-largest city. But for its members this is no reason to stop rehearsing. Small lapses of memory are compensated for by a talent for improvisation and the grace of God.

Dua ratus musisi orkestra memainkan musik di kegelapan total. Distrik Ngiri Ngiri di Kinshasa, sedang mengalami pemadaman listrik yang berlangsung hanya beberapa bar sebelum para musisi menyelesaikan permainan mereka. Pembangkit listrik dan jaringannya di Kinshasa memang tidak sanggup menyediakan listrik bagi 8 juta penduduk di kota ketiga terbesar di Afrika. Namun bagi mereka, hal ini bukan alasan untuk berhenti berlatih. Sebagian besar dari mereka telah hafal bagian yang mesti mereka mainkan. Kekurangan yang ada, dikompensasi dengan bakat untuk berimprovisasi dan karunia Tuhan.

Budapest, 1956. A young water polo star, Karcsi, becomes embroiled in the anti-Soviet Revolution that is brewing in the streets. We chose “My Father and My Son” to be screened in Europe on Screen film festival 2011 with two main reasons: Firstly, the story of the film suits the theme of this year’s festival, “Old & Young Old Europe”. Secondly, the film accurately depicts a difficult period for Turkey; rather than simply portraying the 1980 military coup that affected the whole nation during 1980’s and the legacy of which endured over the course of the following decades, the film focuses on an ordinary family and deals with “father and son” issues spanned over three generations.

Kami memilih “Babam ve Oğlum” karena kisahnya cocok dengan tema festival “Old and Young Europe”. Selain itu, film ini dengan tepat menggambarkan masa-masa sulit di Turki, bukan dengan memperlihatkan kudeta militer tahun 1980 dan pergantian kekuasaan yang bertahan selama beberapa dekade berikutnya, namun dengan menyorot sebuah keluarga dan pasang-surut hubungan ayah-anak dari tiga generasi.

It is common to see stickers with various shapes and sizes on public transportation vehicles in Padang Panjang. We can see logos of major brands, country’s names, or national flags from different countries. In Angkot and a Story, two drivers share their stories about the stickers.

Di dinding-dinding mobil angkutan umum di Padang Panjang, terpasang beragam bentuk stiker dengan ukuran yang berbeda-beda. Kita bisa melihat merek-merek produk luar negeri, ada juga nama-nama negara, dan berbagai macam bendera, seperti bendera Inggris, Jepang, dan juga bendera Indonesia. Dalam Angkot dan Cerita, dua orang sopir angkutan umum berbagi cerita tentang stiker-stiker yang menghiasi dinding-dinding mobil mereka.
