British Academy Film Awards (BAFTA) ke-74 telah mengumumkan judul film dan siapa saja yang meraih nominasinya. Tepatnya di Selasa, 9 Maret kemarin.

Dari pengumuman ini, diketahui jika filmnya Chloé Zhao, Nomadland, dan garapan Sarah Gavron, Rocks, memimpin peraihan nominasi untuk edisi tahun 2021 ini, dengan masing-masing mendapatkan 7 buah nominasi.

Catatan penting lain, tahun ini menampilkan daftar nominasi yang datang dari kalangan cukup beragam, seperti misalnya di mana 16 dari 25 nominee untuk kategori akting datang dari kalangan etnis minoritas.

Zhao, yang baru saja memenangkan piala sutradar terbaik di Golden Globes, dan Lee Isaac Chung – yang filmnya, Minari, meraih piala film berbahasa asing terbaik di ajang yang sama – akan berhadapan dengan Shannon Murphy (Babyteeth), Jasmila Zbanic (Quo Vadis Aida?), Thomas Vinterberg (Another Round), dan Gavron (Rocks) untuk meraih gelar sutradara terbaik. Menjadi catatan tersendiri, karena 4 nominee-nya adalah sutradara perempuan.

Sebagai kontras untuk nominasi tahun 2020 lalu yang cukup kontroversial – saat tidak ada satupun aktor dari kalangan kulit berwarna yang meraih nominasi, – maka tahun ini justru mayoritas diisi oleh mereka. Daniel Kaluuya, mendiang Chadwick Boseman, Riz Ahmed, Dominique Fishback, Tahar Rahim, dan Bukky Bakray adalah nama-nama dari 16 nominee kategori akting dengan latar etnis minoritas.

Daftar nominasi diumumkan oleh ketua BAFTA, Krishnendu Majumdar, dan dipersembahkan secara virtual oleh aktor Aisling Bea dan Susan Wokoma. Para pememang akan diumumkan melalui sebuah acara tanpa penonton pada tanggal 11 April mendatang.
