Film musikal karya Damien Chazelle, La La Land, bersinar paling terang di acara penganugerahan Annual Critic's Choice Awards ke-22 yang berlangsung pada Minggu, 11 September 2016 di Barker Hangar, Bandara Santa Monica, Los Angeles.

La La Land, yang dianggap sebagai salah satu calon kuat di bursa Oscar mendatang, memimpin dalam 8 kategori, termasuk kategori utama, Best Picture. Sebelumnya film memberikan piala Best Director kepada Damien, Best Cinematography untuk Linus Sandgren, Best Editing untuk Tom Cross, Best Production Design untuk David Wasco dan Sandy Reynolds-Wasco, serta Best Score untuk Justin Hurwitz. 

"City of Stars" yang dinyanyikan oleh Ryan Gosling menyabet piala Best Song, sementara naskah film yang ditulis oleh Damien Chazelle, berbagi piala Best Original Screenplay bersama dengan naskah Manchester by the Sea tulisan Kenneth Lonergan. 

Sayangnya Gosling gagal mendapatkan gelar Best Actor, karena piala disabet Casey Affleck untuk pernampilannya di Manchester by the Sea. Begitu juga dengan Emma Stone yang harus merelakan piala Beast Actress didapatkan oleh Natalie Portman berkat perannya sebagai sang First Lady legendaris Jackie Kennedy, dalam Jackie. 

Jackie juga mendapatkan dua piala lagi yaitu untuk kategori Best Costume Design (Madeline Fontaine) dan Best Hair and Makeup. 

Film lain yang mendapatkan beberapa piala sekaligus adalah Hacksaw Ridge, yang mendapatkan piala Best Action Movie dan Best Actor in an Action Movieuntuk Andrew Garfield.
